Greyfriars Chapel, set in the Franciscan Gardens, is the only building now remaining of the first English Franciscan Friary built in 1267, forty three years after the first Friars settled in Canterbury, during the lifetime of St Francis of Assisi.

An Anglican Eucharist Service takes place weekly on a Wednesday at 12.30.

Opening details

Greyfriars Chapel is open to visitors Easter Monday to 30th September, 2pm to 4pm Monday to Saturday. Holy Communion Service at 12.30pm every Wednesday - all welcome to the service. (Gate in Stour Street opened to permit access to chapel for service during winter closure).


Donations welcome (encouraged) for upkeep of building.
