Canterbury Operatic Society present The Mikado
A very British musical - you'll laugh your head off!
Canterbury Operatic Society present Gilbert and Sullivan’s timeless classic, set in the town of Titipu-On-Sea where all the characters seem familiar.
Even though they have Japanese names, they all display truly British characteristics and all the humour in this satire of politics and local administration perfectly fits the British nation.
The Mikado has decreed that anyone who openly flirts in public is guilty of a capital offence and that when a married man is beheaded, his wife has to be buried alive! Despite this rather macabre pronouncement, The Mikado is a work full of fun, involving delight, disguise and deception. Using the original orchestration, the show is brimming with well-known songs including Three Little Maids From School and I’ve Got A Little List.
This is an amateur production.
